There were not many things for the Metsaeliitto Group to rejoice over in 2008, but soft packaging was a plentiful source of joy. Metsae Tissue Corp. is a tissue paper company that managed to increase its turnover and business results, regardless of being battered by changing currency rates. On the one hand, Metsae Tissue managed to squeeze out a business profit of 42 million euros from this fiercely price-competitive market, which is not a dazzling achievement as such, compared to the corporation's annual turnover of 930 million euros. On the other hand, the soft tissue paper business is not as capital-hungry as the heavy forestry industries, which means that it can survive on a narrower gross margin.
