Ahlstroem has completed its restructuring process. The final phase involved the sale of the packaging business and the transfer of coreboard operations to Sonoco-Alcore. Although financial results for last year were poor, first-half results for this year show that things have now improved. Ahlstrom's business operations have been restructured under three distinct companies: the family-owned heritage company A. Ahlstroem Osakeyhtioe, the investment company Ahlstroem Capital Oy, and the industrial company Ahlstrom Corporation. At the same time, the company's industrial operations have been completely revamped. Engineering products, pumps and related activities have been sold and the focus switched to speciality papers and nonwoven products, in which Ahlstrom is seeking to gain a leading position in world markets.
