Despite unseasonable rains and a mild earthquake, almost 1300 members and guests attended the 51st Annual PCI Convention/Exhibition and PCI National Bridge Conference (NBC) in Palm Springs, Calif., October 16-19, 2005. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) cosponsored the NBC. This was the third time in recent years that PCI has held its convention in this popular resort town, even though a major earthquake occurred at the last convention in Palm Springs in 1999. In the days preceding the conference, over 50 committee meetings were held, including meetings of the PCI Board of Directors, the Canadian Precast/Pre-stressed Concrete Institute, and the Executive Committee. A colorful ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday, October 16, by the PCI Board of Directors, signified the official start of the convention.
