The James Limestone is a Lower Cretaceous (Upper Aptian) carbonate interval distributed regionally across the northern rim of the Gulf of Mexico Basin, from eastern Texas to offshore Florida. Significant oil and gas production from the James has existed since the 1960 discovery of Fairway Field in the East Texas Basin. This very large oil accumulation (～400 million bbls oil-in-place), characterized by very high rates of recovery (EUR > 230 million bbls), established the James as a target of exploratory interest. While no other field of similar size has been found in the formation during the succeeding four decades, recent drilling in both onshore and offshore areas of the northern Gulf has established important new gas resources in the James.
