There appears to be no real consensus among Europe's 3G operators when it comes to setting data tariffs, though within national markets operators are competing closely on pricing for data bundles. While some operators are opting to slash per-megabyte charges in the hope of driving data usage, others are offering bundles that conceal far higher data charges, in an apparent effort to maximize revenues from a small pool of data users. An insight into what subscribers across western Europe can expect for their money is provided by Tar-ifica's recently launched UMTS Mobile Data Pricing Service, which surveyed 50 operators.
