When I walked into Foyles' new bookshop in Charing Cross Road in London (unrecognisable in its modern, organised and uncluttered layout from the unruly chaos of the old bookshop two doors along the road) I did not hold out much hope on finding a book on First World War aerial photography to assist my research into this subject (see my forthcoming Editorial in the December 2014 issue of The Photogrammetric Record). I was pleasantly surprised: not only was there a huge multi-shelved section on the First World War, but numerous copies of this large-format volume were on prominent display.
