With a few exceptions, western paper and forest products companies looking for investment opportunities in Russia have been taking the wrong approach. At best, they have returned home with some frustration, without having committed capital, and with a view that Russia is a long-term proposition that will justify another look at some time in the future. There are some very unhappy stories and not many successes.
