Can cross training help paper companies improve purchasing? Maybe: While mills need purchasing pros to bring more to their jobs than a degree, a stint in purchasing can give engineers an edge. Today's paper industry is characterized by increas-ing cooperation between customers, mills and suppliers. For most, these changes have been exciting. Newly-empowered workers, intensively trained operators and an enlightened management force all have the chance to contribute directly to the bottom line.
