Industry's largest J-lay tower has been added to Saipem 7000 (S7000), enabling the semisub-mersible crane vessel (SSCV) to perform ultra-deepwater pipe line installations in 6,600-ft water depths and greater. Weighing over 6,000 tons, the tower is nearly 430 ft tall, and incorporates three conventional track-type tensioners. Each tensioner has a 175-ton capacity between welding station and non-destructive test (NDT) station. Two friction clamps, outfitted with 550-ton-capacity clamping units, apply the necessary tension.
