Mistras Group, Inc. recently announced its acoustic leak detection device had been approved for use in meeting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Mandatory Reporting of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Rule 40 CFR Part 98. The Mandatory Report Rule (MMR) requires entities in the oil and gas industry that exceed certain emissions thresholds to monitor and report their greenhouse gas emissions to the EPA. The company's detection device, termed the VPAC™, is said to not only detect the presence of through-valve leakage but also to use a proprietary calculation method to quantify the through-valve leak rate that is unique in the industry meeting the criteria stated in the MMR mandate.
