For the baseline inspection of Langeled Gas Pipeline, ROSEN's RoCorrMFL/SIC inline inspection tool was selected, providing integrity information on metal loss, shallow internal corrosion and high-resolution geometry features. The combination of two complementary corrosion measurement methods ensures high sensitivity for early feature detection, a high POI for internalon-internal feature discrimination as well as accurate sizing capabilities. This combined use of the two technologies is especially effective in the inspection of heavy-wall pipelines, since the SIC measurement provides accurate depth sizing of shallow internal corrosion while simultaneously assisting MFL in defect identification and depth sizing through its high lateral resolution of defect surface measurement. The RoCorrMFL/SIC is thus an effective tool for monitoring corrosion growth rates. Built specifically for the Langeled inspection project, this customizedrncombo tool not only united all inspection technologies in a single inspection vehicle but met the specific challenges of Langeled Gas Pipeline posed by its length, multi-diameter design, high wall thickness, high pressure and high gas velocity. Since it marked the first time that a 1,173-km subsea pipeline was inspected in a single run, a world record was set with the inline inspection project conducted in August 2009.
