Energy prices have surged upwards in recent years leading to increased demand for measurement. A great deal of flow measurement occurs upstream in oil and gas exploration, production and transmission. Measurement also occurs in refineries and other process plants. Liquid and gas flow measurement occurs downstream, both in natural gas transmission and in loading and unloading of petroleum liquids on trucks, tankers, airplanes and ships.rnThe increased value of oil and natural gas means companies are willing to spend more money measuring oil and natural gas. Increased demand for energy is resulting in greater drilling activity worldwide. This is generating more demand for flow measurement at well sites, including a need for multiphase flow measurement. On the downstream side, higher oil prices are generating demand for more accurate methods of measuring oil that is delivered by truck to homes and offices. The rising price of jet fuel means it is a valuable commodity that may have to be measured more precisely. The recent earthquake in China has disrupted natural gas output, leading to higher demand for diesel fuel.
