Renewed interest in Arctic oil and gasrnhas meant a renewed need for skills in constructing the pipelines that will carry these resources to market. But pipeline professionals may find when they get onto planes bound for Alaska, north Russia and "north of 60" in Canada, that it's an entirely different world. This can mean that plans developed in warmer climates such as Houston, Dallas or London will not work out as expected.rnThe circumpolar region includes a wide range of political and social systems, from the stability of Scandinavia, Canada and Alaska to the more fluid situation in Russia. However, there are some issues in common throughout this resource-rich part of the globe. Essentially, it's remote and it's cold.
