A digital system to monitor and control pipeline hydrostatic testing projects has been developed by Ghizzoni S.p.A. pipeline contractors company of Parma, Italy. It recently was operated on an Italian pipeline section along with an analog system to compare data breadth and resolution. The digital system consists primarily of a precision pressure transducer, sensors for various external parameters-such as temperature, atmospheric pressure and relative humidity-with a digital outside pressure meter and some acquisition signal cards for impulse signals that are transmitted by volume counters (Figure 1).
