摘要

As steel, or iron, oil and gas pipelines came into existence in the late 1800s, the need for them to have cathodic protection (CP) became apparent. But it was not until the 1920s that the U.S. network became extensive enough to present major corrosion problems. By the early 1930s all the major pipeline owners were applying anti-corrosive measures to provide external protection of their pipes, including various coatings and CP. The CP was derived from zinc anodes or from impressed current supplied by DC wind generators, or by transformers and copper oxide rectifiers from AC power supplies.
