During the many years of deliberation over comprehensive energy legislation, the producer, pipeline and local distribution company (LDC) segments of the natural gas industry stood shoulder to shoulder to achieve the mutual goal of a balanced national energy policy. As allies, we sought out provisions that will benefit the national interest by increasing natural gas supply and pipeline capacity—and we accomplished several critical objectives. And although the new energy law does not address all of the challenges the industry faces, it is a first step toward a more secure energy future.
