Williams Gas Pipeline (WGP) recently installed new mechanical variable speed drives (MVSD) and electric motors to improve environmental emissions during the Compressor Station 35 Unit Replacement Project in Houston. Station 35 fell under the Air Emissions Reductions Program for the entire WGP system It was targeted for unit replacement as part of WGP's plans to retrofit engine driven compressors to meet Texas air emissions requirements The mainstay engines for the WGP Pipeline are Cooper, Clark and Ingersoll Rand reciprocating compressors The four existing older generation 4-cycle Nordberg Gas Powered Engines at Station 35 were not deemed acceptable candidates for retrofit Having minimal installations within WGP (three locations total) and questionable spare parts availability, the investment in retrofitting these units was not prudent.
