Pipelines are a necessary and important part of energy transportation and distribution system all over the world. They represent a huge investment monetarily. Pipelines are spread everywhere; underground and aboveground, in rivers and oceans, under and around office buildings and highways, and so on. Safe and cost-effective functioning of these assets is of paramount importance to everyone. This article is all encompassing, not just for gas pipelines. It deals with pipeline problems in all areas, not just "high consequence areas." In addition, an analytical method is presented to prioritize the sections of the pipeline system needing repairs, based on various economical and safety considerations. The pipeline integrity assessment and rehabilitation process could be divided into four distinct areas: problem evaluation and identification, problem classification, mitigation-decision process, and rehabilitation and cost.
