Natural gas continues to play the center ring. For something so mundane―a product used by millions but never seen or I touched, natural gas is getting big, big coverage. Even the highest economic player in the government, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, took the time to address the House Commerce and Energy Committee in June and warn of natural gas shortage problems! Greenspan was clear in his words: "Today's tight natural gas markets have been a long time coming. We are not apt to return to earlier periods of relative abundance and low prices soon." His words could not have been a better signal to the market, especially when he added, "Two-dollar gas is a historic relic, at least for the time being." Same day, Tuesday, June 10, natural gas futures on the New York Mercantile went up and closed at $6.33/MMBtu.
