A new, cured-in-place lining technology for repairing deteriorated natural gas mains and services is now available to gas utilities in the U.S. Exelon Infrastructure Services (EIS) offers the process as one of its trenchless technology solutions for pipeline maintenance and rehabilitation projects. U.S. gas utilities perform more than 150,000 gas service line restorations and 4,500 miles of gas main restoration each year. Allen Spivey, principal technology manager for the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) and president of the executive committee for Starline Trenchless Technology, LLC, says that 10 percent of those projects could be completed faster and at lower cost using the new relining process.
