The significance of pipelines has been increasing with the Increase of gas consumption during the last decades. For the safe and economical transportation of natural gas, pipelines play a vital role in gasfield development. Offshore pipelines in deep waters give us the challenge of making heavy-wall and high-toughness linepipe. Long-distance gas transportation introduce the requirement for higher-strength steel above X80 to reduce the cost of gas transportation. To meet the target for safe and economical pipelines, steel manufactures have made improvements in their technology, and X100 steel pipes have been studied for commercial applications. However, to construct pipelines with X100 pipe, the characteristics of high-strength steel need to be investigated carefully in terms of deformation behaviour, design of welding, and dynamic ductile fracture arrest, in comparison with ordinal-grade linepipe. Not only the steel pipe's properties but also suitable construction codes have to be established to make X100 pipe safe for high-pressure operation.
