Back in the early '90s, I wrote for a small monthly aviation magazine that also put out a quarterly magazine called Affordable Flying, to which I'd contribute articles in bulk. Every three months, the title would feature around six planes that were great buys on the used market. If you're wondering how we could sustain such a title, the answer is, we couldn't. After the second year, we found ourselves increasingly looking at planes that might be a good deal but that existed in such small numbers that they were collectors' items more than practical airplanes. And that status comes with certain issues, the most salient of which is the lack of easy spare parts if something were to break (and I think we can all agree that because they're airplanes, something is always either broken or about to break).
