In truth, I was expecting to hear the same old story. I've been looking into aviation programs since I was a dream-filled teenager leafing through my favorite aviation magazines, and I've come to notice a pattern: Aviation degree programs come in a few basic flavors. While the garnish may be different here and there, most schools feature a simple piston training fleet, a few twins, lots of simulators, a midsized airport location and a cadre of good instructors. Differences are subtle, and have more to do with style than hardware. But Kansas State University's Professional Pilot program doesn't quite fit that mold.rnFirst of all, K-State's College of Aviation and Technology is located in Salina, Kans. Aside from being the home of the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum (a treasure trove for WWII aviation buffs), Salina isn't known as a hotbed of flying activity.
