The 2011 PERC (The Planetary Exploration Research Center of the Chiba Institute of Technology) Planetary Geology Field Symposiumwas held with the theme "Planetary Geology and Terrestrial Analogs." The symposium was hosted on 5-6 November 2011 in Kitakyushu City, Kyushu Island, Japan and was followed by a field trip to hot springs and volcanic features in the Beppu-Shimabara Graben. This field symposium was the first of its kind held in Asia (Komatsu and Namiki, 2012).
