摘要

Rosetta is a planetary cornerstone mission of the European Space Agency whose key objective is to rendezvous with the Jupiter-family comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. On its 10-year journey to the comet, the spacecraft was also scheduled to perform close fly-bys at two very different main-belt asteroids, namely (2867) Steins and (21) Lutetia. Steins was surveyed in 2008 while Lutetia was successfully encountered on 10 July 2010, providing a huge amount of high-quality scientific data. This has led to unpre-cedented new insights into this unusual asteroid which was particularly important since all previous asteroid fly-bys were past fragments of once larger bodies.
