Essentially the same methods are used to characterize electroplated, electroless, vapor deposited and chemically vapor deposited (CVD) coatings, as well as electroforms. Scanning electron microscopy is the method most frequently employed for the materials discussed here. Transmission electron microscopy and optical microscopy also have applications.
