Power sector credit ratings held steady during the recession nand should improve despite a weaker than normal economic nrecovery, Fitch Ratings predicted November 1.n In fact, said Managing Director Glen Grabelsky, Fitch’s rat-nings distributions have shown very little change in five years: nthe median rating of parent level companies’ unsecured debt at nBBB, and for operating companies at BBB+. n “More telling is the low level of ratings activity despite nthe recession. Since the [sector’s] problems of 2002-03 there nhas been a relatively low level of ratings activity,” he added, nat Fitch’s 22d “Power Breakfast” at the Edison Electric Institute nFinancial Conference in Palm Desert, California. n “It’s important to note that the numbers up here are con-nsistent with a normal two-year cycle, unlike in 2002-03: Our nglobal power rating actions totaled 520 between September n2008 and September 2010: 349 affirmations, 27 upgrades and 50 ndowngrades,” said Senior Director Karen Anderson.
