With prospects growing dim that state gatekeepers will nback relicensing of Vermont Yankee, Entergy Thursday took ninitial steps toward putting the 605-MW nuclear plant up for nsale.nEntergy issued a statement saying that exploration of a sale n“is being conducted on a confidential basis,” and that no addi-ntional details will be released at this time. n“Our motivation for exploring the sale of the plant is nsimple — we want to do whatever is in the best interest of nour stakeholders, including the approximately 650 men and nwomen who work at the plant,” said Wayne Leonard, Entergy nchairman and CEO. nThe announcement came two days after Vermont Yankee ncritic Peter Shumlin, a state senator, won election as gover-nnor. Shumlin had led efforts early last year to block renewal nof a state permit needed by Entergy to keep the reactor run-nning after 2012.
