FirstEnergy President and CEO Anthony Alexander believes Governor Ted Strickland's comprehensive energy plan, a version of which is languishing in an Ohio House of Representatives committee, "will not work in its current form." The Akron-based company, owner of electric utilities in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, is eager to go to market rates on January 1, 2009, after existing rate stabilization plans in Ohio expire for FirstEnergy, American Electric Power and Duke Energy Ohio at the end of this year. An exception is Dayton Power & Light, whose rate plan runs through 2010.
