The Louisiana Public Service Commission said last week it may allow all utilities in the state to offer their customers the option to purchase power from renewable sources. Currently only Entergy Gulf States offers the option to its customers in a pilot program. Southwestern Electric Power said last week that the PSC staff asked if it were interested in participating in a green pricing program and now the utility is developing a plan, which should be ready by this summer, said Mike Young, a Swepco spokesman. The PSC also has discussed the possibility with Cleco and may allow Entergy Louisiana customers to participate in a program. Entergy Gulf States has not yet completed the final report of its year-long pilot, but results so far show the program has not achieved the level of participation that the PSC hoped for. However, the results show the program is worthwhile, provides positive benefits and should be continued, the PSC said in an order made public last week.
