摘要

In response to the uncertainty surrounding possible greenhouse gas emission regulations, Kansas City Power & Light wants to begin exploring adding more nuclear generation to its supply mix, according to a long-range resource plan filed last week with Missouri regulators. KCPL wants to discuss the possibility of exploring nuclear generation with PSC staff before moving ahead on the issue. "Nuclear generation has the potential to offer significant environmental benefits and risk reduction under key uncertainties faced by the utility industry," KCPL said. "Nuclear, if feasible, is perhaps the only mature carbon-free supply-side technology that meets the full range of system reliability requirements for baseload generation." KCPL already owns a 545-MW stake in the Wolf Creek nuclear plant in Burlington, Kansas.
