Minnesota Power lias agreed to buy a 250-kV, 465-mile power line for $80 million next year as part of its plan to replace a good deal of coal-fired generation with its own wind power. As part of the plan, the utility has agreed to relinquish a power purchase agreement for low-cost baseload power from a coal plant in Center, North Dakota. The company plans to replace the supply with up to 700 MW of wind. The power line Minnesota Power said it would buy, from Minnkota Power Cooperative, is a DC line that runs from the Milton R. Young plant in Center to the Arrowhead substation
