A bit behind schedule, developers of one of the largest coal-fired power plants proposed for Ohio in years fired off a volley of permit applications last week for the 1,000-MW project. Since plans for the American Municipal Power Generating Station first were unveiled a year ago, the baseload plant's timetable has slipped six months to a year. American Municipal Power-Ohio, a Columbus-based wholesale power supplier and the project's principal developer, now expects at least the initial 500-MW unit to be in commercial operation by 2012, with the second 500-MW unit to follow by 2013.
