Maryland's investor-owned utilities are proposing aggressive demand reduction plans that would cost $850 million between 2008 and 2015. Their plans would cut demand by 1.4 GW and reduce consumption by 3 million MWh annually. This effort would support Governor Martin O'Malley's EmPower Maryland effort, which seeks to reduce energy use 15% by 2015 (EUW, 9 July, 16).
