摘要

New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram has filed suit in federal court, challenging Pennsylvania permits for a 585-MW coal station in Pennsylvania. The AG has also asked the US Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider permits for the Portland station, which Reliant Energy operates near the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border.rnNew Jersey officials are concerned that new permits approved by Pennsylvania focus only on concentrations of pollutants, but not on hourly emissions. That could increase emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and fine particulates affecting New Jersey air quality, as well as the state's attainment with federal air standards. They also fear increases in mercury, heavy metals, hydrochloric acid and hazardous organic substances.
