Italy’s fifth of seven rounds of renewable capacity awards resulted in just 12% of the capacity placed, down from 25% in the previous sale, according to figures from renewable agency Gestore Servizi Energetici (GSE) May 27 Just 298 MW was placed from 2.5 GW on offer as interest continued to dwindled in the process, which has seen only 2.3 GW awarded across five sales since October 2019. Any capacity not placed automatically rolls over to the following sale. The so-called FER 1 process starts the country on the path to meeting its 2030 National Energy and Climate Plan targets, which intend to boost renewable output by around 70 TWh, or 20 percentage points to a 55% share of generation.
