Germany’s 2030 demand for electricity could be up to 13% higher than currently projected by the government, energy minister Peter Altmaier said July 13. A government-commissioned study based on the new 2030 climate law predicts demand of 645-665 TWh, Altmaier said. “The reform of the climate law and our new ambitious targets approved by parliament in June require an adjustment of our analysis of power demand in 2030,” the minister said, adding that Germany’s long-term energy supply was to be based on renewable energies and hydrogen derived from renewable electricity.
