Finland’s Ilmatar Energy aims to build and operate up to 1,000 MW of wind power over the next five years and has acquired a first 200 MW project from Metsahallitus, the state body that manages a third of Finland’s surface area, thee company said June 27. The acquired project, Piiparinmaki-Murtomaki, is to be built without subsidies, “but is also well-positioned to participate in the upcoming renewable energy premium scheme,” Ilmatar said, a reference to upcoming competitive auctions for all renewable technologies bar hydro. Construction of the 50-turbine Piiparinmaki-Murtomaki wind farm is to start next year. Once completed in 2021, it is expected to produce over 600 GWh/year.
