Returning production saw Polish day-ahead power prices falling from 26-month highs seen at the end of April. POLPX settled day-ahead base prices at Zloty 177.33/ MWh, or €42.33/MWh May 8, 36% down over the past fortnight, while the peak contract cleared at Zloty 200.53/MWh or €47.87/MWh, 44% down on end-April when it the contract had risen above Zloty 300/MWh. The Polish prompt was trading at a strong premium to neighboring markets in April with day-ahead base averaging €44.08/MWh, up 12% from an average of €39.29/MWh in March and 22% up year on year. More than 7,000 MW of conventional capacity was offline through the month, including the country's single largest power block, PGE's 858 MW Belchatow-14 unit. However, over 2,000 MW returned to service in the first full week of May-- including Belchatow-14. In addition, demand remained subdued and wind output picked up.
