Czech utility CEZ connected the 216th wind turbine of its Fantanele-Cogealac wind farm in Romania to the national grid October 11, increasing the wind park's installed power capacity to 540 MW. According to CEZ, it is now the largest onshore wind farm in Europe and generated 655.9 GWh in the first nine months of the year. The 600 MW wind farm, located in the southeastern province of Dobrogea near the Black Sea coast, is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year with all 240 turbines in operation, a year later than originally planned. The project was briefly suspended in September 2010 due to a building permit dispute with the local authority, but construction of the €1.1 billion project resumed in May 2011 once the issue had been resolved. According to the company, CEZ will have a 10% share in Romania's renewables output once the entire wind farm has been completed.
