Estover Energy has submitted a planning application to Northumberland County Council for an upto-25-MWe biomass-fired combined heat and power plant at Windmill Industrial Estate, Cramlington. The plant is to supply power to the grid and heat and power to Aesica Pharmaceuticals, Estover said late September. It is to use clean low-grade wood from local forestry operations. A consortium of forestry owners within a 60-mile radius of the plant is to supply sufficient low-grade wood on a sustainable basis, typically low grade wood unsuitable for sawmills and timber production. Newcastle-based planning consultancy Fairhurst is working with Estover Energy.
