Not to hot, not too cold - that is the ideal outcome for new-build gas-fired power in the UK, energy minister Charles Hendry told MPs this month. The minister has called for more gas-fired power plants to be built in the country over coming years to ensure security of supply, but warned that if too many were built government might have to take action to moderate the increase. "We will have a crisis if we don't secure more investment in gas," Hendry told the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change select committee on July 19. But he warned that if the increase in CCGT build was "greater than anticipated," then "of course we will have to moderate it."
