France could phase out nuclear by 2033 and still be a low-carbon economy by 2050, according to a September 29 study by French think tank N6gawatt Association. C02 levels could be halved by 2030 and cut sixteen fold by 2050, the study calculates. This implies a massive effort in terms of demand management, coordinated management of gas, power and heat networks, and high reliance on biomass (but not at the expense of food production).
