The Swiss government has decided against an anticipated increase in the surcharge of 0.45 centimes per kWh (Euro cents 0.34/kWh) introduced in January 2009 to finance full-cost feed-in tariffs system for the promotion of renewables (KEV). The rate will remain the same in 2011. On the basis of Swiss national consumption of 55.3 TWh in 2009, the surcharge raised CHF 250 million to provide subsidies for renewables projects and finance risk guarantees for geothermal exploration.
