After a pause of seven months, Nuon's Magnum CCGT/gasification power project is back in active construction. The issue of a revised local permit in relation to conservation issues was resolved on December 19, according to Nuon, after the province ofrnFriesland granted a license for the project under the country's Nature Conservation Act. The Environment Ministry had issued a revised framework permit on December 5. Both the original permits had been struck down by judicial review.rnEnvironmentalists have been opposing Nuon Magnum, in particular because it will be partially coal-fired if the gasification development stage proceeds completion of the three unit, 1,300-MW CCGT plant. The second phase will provide for syngas production from a mix of biomass and coal. Work on the plant, being built near the port of Eemshaven for Nuon by Mitsubishi, began in early 2008, but was halted last May because of the permitting problems.
