A fire in the reactor building of Olkiluoto-3 did not affect construction on the new EPR unit, Juhani Ikonen, spokesman for utility Teollisuuden Voima Oy, said August 1. The fire broke out early July 30 between the outer and inner containment walls and was discovered at about 0200 CET, TVO said in a statement. It said "a small amount of scaffolding material had ignited [and] the fire spread to two levels, but the fire brigade managed to extinguish it before 6 [am]." No-one was injured, TVO said. Ikonen said that "the construction work is proceeding quite normally," because there was no construction work under way in the "small area" between the containment walls. There was also no equipment there, he said.
