Long-term contracts for France's energy-intensive users could provide finance and revenue streams for new nuclear capacity, analysis of the proposals put to France's Competition Council suggests. "That can only mean nuclear," an industry source told P/E, in reaction to the amount of power required and inclusion in the concept of construction of additional Kyoto-friendly generating capacity. The only nuclear project on the books in France at the moment is EDF's 1.600MW Flamanville EPR project. The impression of a link is strengthened by the fact that EDF is the only company in a position to supply as much power as the users want under the deal. French unions have also said they see a link.
