Taiwan may regret the reported decision to return unused fuel for itsLungmen nuclear plant to the US if voters in a referendum choose tocomplete and operate the mothballed plant, a nuclear power supportersaid March 29.The return of the unused fuel rods to the U.S. will incur aT$7.8 billion ($274 million) loss for state-owned utility Taiwan Power Co.,known as Taipower, and all taxpayers will ultimately pay the bill,said Huang Shih-hsiu, a former researcher with the National PolicyFoundation, a think tank linked to the opposition Kuomintang,or KMT, party, during a news conference. Huang heads NuclearMythbusters, a non-profit organization sponsoring the Aug. 28referendum on Lungmen.
