The UK’s Office for Nuclear Regulation does not currently have therncapacity to “deliver a nuclear safeguarding regime,” despite legislationrnhaving just been introduced into Parliament to create such a regime,rnONR’s senior nuclear inspector has said.rnThe June 21 Queen’s Speech, in which the UK government’srnlegislative program for the next two years was introduced inrnParliament, contains a Nuclear Safeguards Bill which if adopted wouldrngive power to ONR to take on the responsibilities required to meetrninternational nuclear safeguard and non-proliferation obligations.
