Alliant Energy Corp. subsidiaries can shorten a purchase agreement for the output of the Duane Arnold nuclear plant in Iowa and build a wind project in the Hawkeye State for its Wisconsin customers, regulators said in separate decisions. In one of two recent developments, the Iowa Utilities Board on December 11 approved a settlement that allows the utility to end its purchase of energy from the 622.1-MW Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) five years early, in 2020, in exchange for a $110 million buyout payment to operator NextEra Energy Resources. Then on December 13, Alliant Energy said the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin gave oral approval for the company to build the 150-MW Kossuth County Wind Farm in northern Iowa.
